Charleston Dental Associates offers dental implants to replace a missing tooth or teeth for our patients in James Island, West Ashley and North Charleston SC.
“A dental implant is a surgical component that interfaces with the bone of the jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, denture, facial prosthesis or to act as an orthodontic anchor. The basis for modern dental implants is a biologic process called osseointegration, in which materials such as titanium form an intimate bond to bone. Success or failure of implants depends on the health of the person receiving the treatment, drugs which affect the chances of osseointegration, and the health of the tissues in the mouth.” Wikipedia
Dental Implant Procedure: How it Works
During a dental implant procedure, your dentist will place the initial titanium implant within the original tooth’s bone site. The implant will integrate with the implant over time. This bond with the implant prevents bone loss that would occur naturally over time with tooth loss.
Single dental implants or implants used as bridge abutments are restored with crowns. Implants used for removable dentures are used with attachments inserting into the denture base. Dental implants are an exceptional way to replace form, function, and aesthetics to areas of missing teeth.
